Rahul Gandhi says UP could not get benefits of Central schemes under non-Congress regimes

Launching a blistering attack on BSP supremo Mayawati for claiming to be working for dalits, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi had said that she deprived dalits of the benefits of the Congress-led Central Government’s job guarantee scheme named MNREGA. Rahul Gandhi who spearheaded the Congress campaign in Uttar Pradesh attacked the non-Congress parties in the state for blocking the development in UP. “Mayawati grabbed the votes of dalits to come Chief Minister but once in power she shut the door upon them”, said Rahul Gandhi.

To find a solution to the alarming situation of unemployment in the state, Congress led Center made MNREGA scheme for providing guaranteed employment to the poor in the villages, informed Rahul Gandhi.  “Huge amounts of funds were sent to the state by the Congress-led UP at the centre under this flag ship programme”, said Rahul Gandhi. “It ensures minimum 100 days employment @ Rs 120 per day to every poor, which amounts to Rs 12,000 in a year. This policy helped the poor to get employment, earn income and respectable social status”, added the Congress leader. “But these funds were stolen in Uttar Pradesh and the poor could not get anything” alleged Rahul Gandhi. Highlighting that this scheme is a tremendous success in Congress (I) ruled states like Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, Rahul Gandhi said Mayawati enriched herself at the cost of the dalits.
