Blaming Mayawati government for denying the poor the benefits of central schemes, Congress (I) has said Mayawati government looted MNREGA funds meant for providing employment to rural poor. Mayawati government is not able to refute a single figure details of which have been furnished to her government. The allegation is based on complete details. Congress (I) said a few instances will suffice to bring home the point. In Balrampur – supported by documents – in 2008 the panchayat of that district bought 1.5 lakh calendars under the name of MNREGA – each calendar costing Rs. 31/-. Tents of Rs. 80 lakhs and first-aid boxes of lakhs were again purchased. In Ghonda, in 2007-08, toys of Rs. 37 lakhs were purchased in the name of Women laborers’ crèches. This is not the question of toys only but Mayawati government is playing with the sentiments of the people of UP who need an answer from the Mayawati government, said Congress (I).
