Mayawati failed to help women: Rahul Gandhi

Blaming Mayawati for paying no attention to the issues of women during her rule in the state, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has blamed her for failing to help women in Uttar Pradesh. Although Chief Minister Mayawati herself is a women, she neglected to implement welfare initiatives for women, Rahul Gandhi said during campaign for ongoing Assembly elections. She failed to better the lives of millions of the people across the state, he added.  "Has anything changed in your households? I cannot see any fruitful change and that upsets me. When I visit your houses, the situation seems to be the same,” he further said. Life of girls and women particularly of those belonging to poor, SC/ST and OBCs become insecure under her government. Instead of protecting their honor Mayawati chose to hold periodic darbars for distribution of compensation cheque to poor women who were victim of rape. This worked as insult to an injury for the victim women. Highlighting that Congress (I) has brought a number of schemes for empowerment and welfare of the women, Rahul Gandhi urged the people to vote for Congress (I) in their own interest.  He assured that Congress (I) will bring more welfare schemes for the betterment of women.
