Congress for more Pro poor policies in national interest

It goes to the credit of present Congress (I)-led UPA government that while the previous government had treated the poor as deserving recipient of occasional state doles in the form of welfare schemes, the present Congress led Government has made them as partners in development process which is taking place fast in the country. The country’s economy is generating good income despite present recessionary trend which is likely to pass over in early next year.  Congress (I) President Sonia Gandhi as chairperson of National Advisory Council and General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on the ground level are working on number of schemes and programs to empower the poor to stand on their own feet. Rahul Gandhi believes that poor people lack only resources but not potential. Accordingly thrust area of Congress (I) is on capacity building programs for the poor. This pro-poor approach of Congress (I) is in the national interest because the strength of nation lies in strength of its people, as a whole, and not in the riches of few urban elite.
