Congress (I) has said Mayawati not only betrayed dalits and poor but also women of the Uttar Pradesh who feel cheated as well as insulted. At the time of last Assembly elections Mayawati had assured crime against women would be severely dealt with. Women voted for Mayawati on this assurance but Mayawati did not fulfill her promise. Instead she busied herself in amassing wealth by corrupt means while befooling the public she kept on giving statements that crime and corruption will not be tolerated. But she did not do anything on the ground. As a result life of women and girls particularly those belonging to dalit, OBCs and minorities has turned completely unsafe. Even Mayawati’s ministers and legislators have been involved in rape cases. So much so policemen have been committing rape even on minor girls. To add insult to injury Mayawati has been holding public meetings to distribute relief cheques to victims of rape cases, said Congress (I).
